Conclusion
- What can we say so far:
- Subliminal perception is misnamed: there is no threshold to be below
- Most researchers hope to find subliminal processing among the brains unconscious
processing
- An adequate measure of subliminal perception is lacking
- The lack of a coherent mental model of consciousness is part of the problem
- Anatomy suggests complex interaction between conscious and unconscious
visual processing with the possibility of subliminal perception
- What should we do now:
- Should not focus on weak subliminal responses
- Automatic processing is robust
- Think of the Stroop Effect
- If
subliminal perception is a similar process should it not be robust also?
- Go back to anatomy and better understand the functions of the different
visual areas
- Try to set up conflicts like in Stroop
