Informed Consent to Participate in Psychology Study
This research is being conducted by Jessica Rouse and Danelle Pattison, two senior psychology majors at Hanover College for the senior research project, supervised by Dr. Bill Altermatt. The experiment in which you are asked to participate is designed to examine various sexual behaviors and the amount of perceived acceptance of these sexual behaviors by four prominent groups. You will be asked to indicate the frequency of participation in the 32 sexual behaviors listed and your estimated number of partners or occurrences for each behavior. After completing this section, you will be asked to rate how you perceive your parents’ and peers’, your past sexual education classes’ and the media’s acceptance of these sexual behaviors. Upon completion you will be debriefed and given contact information in case more information is desired.
The entire experiment should not take more than 45 minutes. There are no known risks involved in this experiment; however, the subject matter could be offensive to some people. The information you provide during the experiment is completely anonymous; at no time will your name be associated with the responses you give. If you have any questions about what you will be doing in the study or about the study itself, feel free to contact one of the researchers.
If you have any questions after the study, please contact Jessica Rouse at rouse@hanover.edu or Danelle Pattison at pattison@hanover.edu.
