Revised Group Project Proposal

Please hand in a proposal with the following information.  Consider this proposal a contract. You cannot begin your project until you've received approval from me and you must inform me of any deviations from the proposal below. I am your IRB. J

Please tell me:

1. What is your general topic?

2.  List 4 references you have found that (according to the abstracts) speak to your project. Be sure to try to actually get references that look good sooner rather than later (remember ILL takes a while).

3.  List your conceptual and operationalized variables.  If you are running an experiment, be sure to label which variables are the independent and which are dependent.

4.  Describe, in detail, the procedure you will use to run your study. I should know exactly how the study will progress.

5.  Be sure to provide detailed information about your materials - questionnaires, manipulations, consent or debriefing forms.  Include draft copies of written materials & descriptions of verbal or other instructions/procedures.

6. What is your hypothesis?

7. Discuss the ethics of the study.  Say why and how you plan to gain consent (or why you aren't getting consent), debrief (or why you aren't) and discuss any potential harm to the participants.

Note: Consider your timeline as well. I would recommend that you finish collecting your data no later than before Thanksgiving break so that you have time to analyze and write-up the results and discussion sections for your posters.Your poster will include abstract, brief introduction (i.e., an abbreviated literature review leading to your hypothesis), method, results, and discussion sections. Your oral presentation should have a similar structure. The oral presentations will be to our class (and invited faculty); the poster session will follow.  All psych faculty, majors and other psychology students will be invited to the poster session. You will stand by your posters and answer any questions.

Note, this means you should be conducting a more extensive literature search and working writing your Intro and Method section even while you are collecting your data. DO NOT try to do all the work the last week!!

LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS OR QUESTIONS!!
