Instructions

When you go to the next page, a new window will be opened, filling your screen, which runs the experiment.  First there will be a “Start” button at the top of the screen.  When you are ready to begin, click on that button.

Next comes the experimental screen.  At the top in the center will be a Poggendorff figure.  Your job is to line up the two lines using only your eyes and looking straight at the figure.  To line up the lines, you can:

When you are satisfied with your judgment, click the “Done” button at the bottom of the screen.  You will do this 20 times.  You will see two different bar widths (No Bar is a possible bar width), and two different, randomly chosen, angles of the lines crossing the bars.

When you are done, your results will be presented.  There will be four lines of data.  In each line will be the bar width, angle of the line, the average difference in position between the right and left lines.  A value of 0 means you perfectly lined up the two lines.  Last is the average amount of time you took to do each trial in each condition.

To send in your data, press the "Send Data" button at the bottom of the screen.  Please wait for the button to go black which will take a few seconds.  When the button has gone black, you may close the window and leave the experiment.  Thank you very much for your time.
