Explanation of Rating Project

With the rapidly changing nature of the way we access information it has been proposed that it would be helpful to have some form of a rating system for sites with psychological information. This rating system would be from a psychological perspective and could be especially useful for guiding students to good psychological sites on the internet.

The idea is this:
We are asking the users of the APS pages to help us in this task. As you browse the web and use psychological sites please use this form to rate these sites. We will take a weighted average of the ratings on the dimensions which are described below and post this rating next to the link to the site on the APS page. If more than one person rates them we will post the mean rating among the reviewers. Hopefully we will have time to develop pages that will give more information on the reviews given by the raters for each site.

Thank you for your help.

The ratings are to be on the following criteria using a 1 to 10 scale:

Rating Criterion #1: Amount and quality of original information, e.g. data or original sources (Weight = 3). Orignial sources of information are thought to be of greater inportance and usefulness than sites that simply have links to original sites.

Rating Criterion #2: Usefulness to scientific psychology generally (Weight = 3). The sites should benefit scientific psychology as that is the mission of the APS.

Rating Criterion #3: Number and reliability of links to other psychological resources (Weight = 2). This indicates the usefulness in finding other information and how well these links are maintained.

Rating Criterion #4: Design quality and ease of use, i.e., is the layout logical (Weight = 2). This is not appearance but how easily a user can find a desired piece of information.
